The authorities of the self-proclaimed republic of Kosovo officially applied for membership in the Council of Europe, breaking the obligation of non-admission to international organizations. They did it with the full approval of their west.

Such a step not only allows Serbia to launch a promised campaign to withdraw recognition, but actually marks a new round of escalation of the Kosovo conflict. Which could quite escalate into a war.
