Hatestead tip #338
You are only as sharp as you are sharp.
What you own should have purpose, worth and be serviceable. With the prepper's mindset (consumers) you purchase shit, put it away and one day it will just work when you need it to. You need to break that shit immediately, mentally, physically and spiritually, learning to value, use, rely on and protect that investment.
The consumerist and survivalist mindset is the opposite of who and what you really are, the gear you rely on might literally be in your pocket at the moment. If it is a folding knife ask yourself: Is it sharp? Is it oiled? Is it tensioned?
Treat everything you value with the care it is due, including relationships. Have you checked the fluid levels in your vehicle? Have you cleaned the interior so it passes a quick glance test by passers by and law enforcement? Have you made contact with someone you've noticed has dropped off a little lately, and ask them how they are doing?
If you have an axe do you sharpen it before putting it away? Check now is it sharp, is the wood oiled to prevent splintering and cracking, is the head oiled to prevent corrosion, is the face masked to protect the edge from damage, and people from the live edge? Is this not the minimum standard you should have for the things you value, and rely on?
