You should, therefore, either buy a case which has plastic cards or get an additional set of cards.

For a real game of poker, you need more than just the cards. You will, of course, need chips, as well as a stop clock or blind timer. Here we'll give you an overview of everything you must have, as well as some things which are not strictly necessary, but are nice to have in order to provide an authentic poker atmosphere and make life simpler.

Chip Suitcase
The most important accessory for playing poker, because you can't really do anything without some chips. For a normal home game of poker, it is recommended that you have at least 500 chips, which you can get (amongst others) from the Free TON Shop.

There is nothing wrong with buying a bigger case, which will allow for larger poker games, and the price difference is not that significant.

The normal case is that each player starts the tournament with 100 big blinds. If the small blind is 5 and the big blind is 10 chips, then each player would start with 1000 chips (10*100=1000). If you double the blinds from now on, from 5/10 to 10/20 to 20/40, then the blinds are sizable, resulting in a swift, but not chaotic game.
If you want more action, you can drop some of the blind level. You could go from 5/10 to 10/20, then instead of 20/40, skip straight to 40/80. Of course, you can add intermediate steps to slow the game, such as 15/30.

THE DURATION OF THE BLIND LEVELS
Practice has shown that, in general, you should have blind levels of no longer than 45 minutes. Otherwise, you are in for a very long night. Likewise, you shouldn't have them for less than 10 minutes. Optimally, you want them at about 20 minutes, which is not too short or too long.
Depending on how comfortable your seats are and how long you want the night to last, you may decide to insert a break every 1-2 hours.

The speed of the tournament and the required skill on the part of the players is largely determined by the blind structure. A blind structure is a set of rules for governing when the blinds increase and by how much.

What are blinds and antes?
The blinds are a fundamental part of a Texas Hold'em game as you probably know. If not: There are two blind bets that two players must pay before receiving their cards. The two players change each round, so that everyone must pay them every few hands. If you want to know more, see the articles on the rules of Texas Hold'em.
In a tournament, the size of these blinds is not fixed like it is in a cash game. They are periodically increased in order to force more action into the game. At the beginning the blinds are small and it is not generally worthwhile to play mediocre cards. Eventually they become very large, forcing you to either act quickly or have your stack consumed by them.

We refer to a particular blind size as a "blind level", but there can also be antes in the game. These are a bets that every player must put in the pot every hand. The blinds, on the other hand, are paid by only two players.

For example, you can have blinds of 1000 and 2000 chips, but every player must pay an additional ante of 100 chips. This sounds small, but when paying this every hand, it adds up.

If you have a tournament with rebuys to organise, you shouldn't distribute all the chips, but keep some out of the game to begin with. First, you should consider how often each player may rebuy chips. If you play with unlimited chips you'll need more than if you play a game with just one rebuy + add-ons.

FOR UNLIMITED REBUYS
With pro-players at the table you should have enough chips for two rebuys and an add-on. It might be the case that some players go broke and rebuy more often, but some will do so just once or not at all.

LIMITING TO 1 REBUY + 1 ADD-ON
Here you logically need enough chips for only 1 rebuy and an add-on. These ones should be available since you have to assume each player will both rebuy and add-on.

HOW BIG SHOULD THE REBUY AND ADD-ON BE?
A rebuy is usually just as big as the starting stack. The add-on can be just as big, but it can also be bigger, for instance 1.5x the starting stack.

HOW LONG SHOULD THE REBUY PHASE LAST?
You should allow rebuys for as long as it is worthwhile. This means for as long as someone who has just rebought to be able to continue in a reasonable way. If the blinds are 2,000/4,000, it wouldn't be worthwhile for someone to rebuy a stack of 10,000 chips, since he will probably go broke very quickly with just 2 ½ big blinds.

How many chips each?

Instead of making lots of fast decisions, the big difference of live poker vs online poker is slowing down and taking as much information in as possible before putting your chips in. This does include factoring in live poker tells, but it also means paying more attention to previous action, table image and more.

Fundamentally the best way to win at live poker is to hone your game online. But making the mental adjustments to the speed and pace of live poker is the best way to adapt to the game.
